Set in the mid 19th century in Wyoming, this is the story of Sarah Wise, the spoiled Southern belle daughter of General Wise, who indulged his only child. So when she asked to go into the West with him and his men, he finally agreed. And so begins the tale of Sarah’s new life.As they move deeper into the frontier, Sarah begins to change, as she must accept hardships of the road. She dare not complain, as it was she who insisted on coming along.
At Fort Laramie, the young Cheyenne chief Night Hawk sees Sarah and knows instantly the redhead he calls “Flame” is his soul mate. Sarah recognizes him from a dream she has had, one of many dreams that tell of future events, and is frightened. Little does she know that she is about to become his captive.
Night Hawk steals her away and soon makes her his wife, giving Sarah no choice in the matter. Having taken his dead brother’s wife Little Rabbit into his tipi. Sarah mistakenly assumes the pregnant squaw is his wife in truth but Night Hawk merely shelters his dead brother’s pregnant wife. Little Rabbit resents Sarah and is jealous of the love Night Hawk shows the white woman.
Hart kept me on the edge of my seat reading all that happens to Sarah and the Cheyenne over the next few years. There are many twists and turns as Sarah makes a new life among the Cheyenne, tries to escape, discovers her gift of dreams makes her a “Dreamer” to the Cheyenne and greatly prized. She grows up and falls in love with her respected Cheyenne warrior husband. And Night Hawk never flags in his love for her, save for when she tries to escape and he believes she has betrayed him.
Hart’s deep research into the Cheyenne people comes through as we experience all that it means to live among them. She brings the era to life and adventure to the page. I highly recommend this story!

First of all this is the 3d book in a trilogy. Silken Savage first, Summer Storm second, and Night Flame 3 (all by Catherine Hart). I read Silken Savage decades ago and recently rebought and reread it. It's the best book I ever read. That's when I discovered that Summer Storm was the sequel to Silken Savage and Night Flame was the third Native American Romance book for Catherine Hart. Silken Savage and Summer Storm are definitely tied together and Night Flame has some great honorable mentions that you will be delighted by if you read the first two books.
Ok, without giving away the book, you will really like this book. I loved how the plot did not drag out and all of the different turns in story were quickly addressed. I liked the characters. Night Hawk is a loving, passionate man and a fierce warrior that any woman would choose to have. Sarah (Flame) evolves and becomes a loving, high quality woman, that earned my respect and admiration. I loved their love. If you love true love, you will enjoy this book.
Night Flame is really well written & gives you an interesting story as well as showing what it was like for the Native Americans in that period of time. The White man was trying to corral them for their purposes of taking away their land and eradicate them. They were only trying to survive & captured a lot of whites along the way. You can see why some white women became part of that way of life simply because they did not have a choice. If they were not rescued then they had to adapt to stay alive. After a period of time I'm sure they felt they were a part of that life & some could not go back for fear of retribution for being an outcast since they were a part of the native american way of life. In short, they either adapted or died & falling in love with their captors is not too difficult to understand. They got to depend on their captor for protection, food, clothing, etc.
I highly recommend this book for the romance as well as a history of the frontier as it was in that period of time.
The book was so romantic and the story was beautiful. Night Hawk is a dream guy!
I haven't even finish reading this book yet and I already love it.. I am a big fan of historical books and every time I read one of Catherine Harts books its like she pulls me back into that time.. Great job
This was my first Catherine Hart novel, and I really enjoyed it. I found the tender love and the dialog, between the heroin Sara and Night Hawk quit believeable. I found myself truly lost in the story. Very good read with lots of twists and turns. I couldn't put it down.
Sarah travels out west with her father, who is a General in the Union Army. She is bored with her life in Washington, DC since all of the men are away fighting in the war between the states. Her father has spoiled her and can't say no when she decides to come along with him to tour some forts out west. The travels are much harder than she thought they would be but she refuses to go home. For the last few years she has been having dreams that come true and recently she has been haunted with dreams of a man with dark eyes and a handsome face.
Night Hawk is a Cheyenne chief visiting Fort Laramie to do some trading. He sees Sarah as she is coming into the fort and is instantly captivated by her red hair and bright blue eyes. Sarah is shaken when she sees Night Hawk because he is the man she has been dreaming of for months.
Night Hawk feels that she is the woman destined to be his, so he and his warriors kidnap Sarah from the fort. He names her Flame for her bright red hair and expects her to come to terms with her new life among the Cheyenne. The rest of the story follows Flame as she adjusts from life as a spoiled girl to life with the Cheyenne as the wife of Night Hawk. Night Hawk is a fierce warrior but falls hard for his Flame, just as Flame comes to love Night Hawk with all her heart so that she gladly gives up her old life to be with her love. They build a life together and overcome many difficulties as the story follows their life for the next few years and shows their love strengthening with time and hardship.
I enjoyed this Native American historical romance. I like the 1860's setting with the Cheyenne because the book shows their way of life before it was destroyed when they were put on reservations. I enjoyed both Flame and Night Hawk and thought their love story was beautiful.
